Date: 4th April 2008 Sea turtles are caught on Gaza beach and slaughtered for their blood which is considered to contain aphrodisiac properties like the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra . Palestinian fishermen feed on turtles and the remaining shell part is reportedly used by children as surfboard. Yaniv Levy, a sea turtle expert from Israel , has identified one such turtle as Leatherback turtle on the basis of its size and shell and has also indicated that the weight of the turtle is supposed to lie between 300-500 kg. According to a Reuter's cameraman, the fishermen collected the turtle's blood and distributed it among adults suffering from back problems and children suffering in the grip of trauma.Source: http://in.reuters.com/ |
