Large-scale trading of fake Viagra in China has been exposed recently with the arrest of a man named Xi and his associates for manufacturing 60 tonnes Viagra pills without any authorized licence or the permission of Pfizer.
As reported by the Xinhua state news agency, the main culprit Xi and his accomplices carried illegal operations from a pharmaceutical factory by registering it as a food company. Xi took the drug company on rent in May 2001 at Bangbu city, Anhui province and then started making pills and capsules by mixing slidenafil with sugar and other components.
Xi`s arrest and later imprisonment for a period of eight years has made it obvious that China has been increasingly taking tough action on the counterfeit drug business in the country. The fake drug company established by Xi sold drugs worth 21m yuan (£1.5m) till the time he was arrested.
