A federal jury convicted a graduate student and a website operator for illegally peddling Viagra on the Internet to thousands of people, following a one day deliberation after seven weeks of trial.
According to the prosecutors, the wide Viagra peddling ring is headed by Bansal, a Temple University graduate student from India, and his physician father, Brij Bhushan Bansal. They have been supplying the erectile dysfunction drug through 20 websites, where more than 4500 people place orders for millions of the pills. The other accused Fred Mullinix operated one of the websites.
The physician father, who is in custody in India, has been supplying the drug, which is being distributed in the United States. Patrick Meehan, the US Attorney, said that the Internet has opened the doors for many such unregulated dealings, where people can easily bypass the safeguards that are in place to protect the people.
Stephen Laver, the attorney of Mullinix is going to make an appeal, while Bansal’s attorney Richard R Harris couldn’t be reached for comments.
