The provincial authorities of Punjab in Eastern Pakistan unearthed a number of illegal factories engaged in the manufacture and sales of fake and substandard virility drugs.
Virility drugs fall under the category of forbidden drugs that are banned from manufacture and sales in the country. But with the ever-rising demands for virility drugs, the illegal ring of manufacturers and distributors has been on the rise. Homeopathic, allopathic and other alternative labels, along with Viagra (Sildenafil) are manufactured without proper license in small factories or houses in Lahore and other cities.
The government cracked down with stern measures on the illegal brigade, resulting in a downslide of the sales of the virility drugs. However, many experts have approached the government to legalize the manufacture and sales of the drug to help genuine patients. They say that Viagra is approved by the FDA in the US , and the main ingredient of Viagra is cheaper than it previously was. It would keep the production costs very low.
The Punjab Health Minister Dr. Tahir Ali Javed has directed the concerned authorities to enhance the capacity of the Drug Testing Laboratory. The shift in policy would standardize the existing facilities of the local and multinational companies that manufacture drugs. The move may lead to the legalization of the virility drugs like Viagra, sooner than later.
