Date: November 27, 2006
In a recent verdict, a Colombian court has ordered Pfizer Incl. to remove its erectile dysfunction pill Viagra from the market in Colombia . When the decision of the court was announced, Luis Alberto Acuna, Pfizer`s representative in Colombia asserted the company's determination to appeal against this verdict in the upper court and also stressed on the fact that Pfizer would try not to leave the Colombian market at any cost.
The order decreed by the Bogota court recently was linked to the 3-year-old suit that the Pfizer filed against the Colombian company Lafrancol on the ground that the latter has copied Viagra and manufactured another pill Eroxim. With Pfizer lodging a legal battle against Lafrancol the company also filed a countersuit mentioning that it had already gained the authorization from Colombian authorities to do the marketing for Eroxim as a medicine which works like Viagra.
