In order to put a check on the rise in counterfeit drugs, Pfizer Incl. has successfully fixed UHF Gen 2 RFID tags to 2 million bottles, 55,000 cases and 400 pallets of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra and now the company is gearing up to utilize the tagging system on its another top drug named Celebrex.
The tagging process newly undertaken by the drug manufacturer Pfizer is a part of the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) initiative undertaken by the company about which the company had earlier made announcement at the RFID Health-Care Industry Adoption Summit conference held in Washington DC.
In comparison to Viagra, the annual volumes of Celebrex are significantly higher and as a result the tagging of Celebrex is more costly than Viagra. Owing to this, Pfizer was not willing to tag the medicine initially but as now it has decided to adopt the same process that was applied to Viagra, it has become easier for wholesalers to recognize counterfeit Celebrex.
