According to the pre-clinical data of Camila Santos and Marcellus Souza at the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil, sildenafil (Viagra) may prove to be effective in combating the side effects of various pain killing drugs like ibuprofen and aspirin. But it has the risk of developing the side effects of Viagra.

Aspirin, ibuprofen, indomethacin etc come under the category called NSAIDs. It stands for Non-steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs. This drug family is very effective against inflammatory diseases as it can counter the acute pain involved with the diseases. But the anti-inflammatory drugs have limited clinical use due to possible gastronomical side effects including stomach ulcer. The research has come up with the prospect of using the anti-inflammatory drugs without the fear of getting the gastric side effects.

The two research scholars tried sildenafil laced with the NSAID indomethacin in rats to investigate the outcome of Viagra on the gastric effects of the anti-inflammatory drugs. They found out that indomethacin reduced gastric blood flow and increased the adhesion of inflammatory white blood cells. These are two likely antecedents to gastric side effects, which Sildenafil easily corrected through its nitric oxide-producing characteristics.

Adriano Rossi from the MRC Centre for Inflammation Research at the University of Edinburgh says that as both Viagra (sildenafil) and NSAIDs are licensed products, the trials on human beings would proceed at a rapid pace in a short time. But he hints on the chances of getting the side effects of Viagra, though it minimizes the gastric effects of the anti-inflammatory drugs.

However a regulated dose of Viagra that would be highly effective on the stomach only can be worked out according to their findings. An unwanted erection is one possible side effect of the medicament.
