A Pfizer funded study was conducted recently to find out whether the anti-impotency medicine Viagra can be taken with high blood pressure drugs. As the experiment drew to a close, it became apparent, when the participants using one or more blood pressure drugs were administered with Viagra, they showed marked improvements in their erectile functioning as well as in their ability to achieve satisfactory sexual intercourse without any symptom of serious side-effects on the heart.
In the study, altogether 568 men who were on one or two blood pressure lowering drugs were provided Viagra or an inactive placebo for 6 weeks and thereafter for another six weeks, everyone enrolled in the experiment was administered with Viagra.
The results showed that in comparison to 18 percent placebo administered people, 71 percent erectile dysfunction afflicted men administered with Viagra had improved erections. In addition to that, 69 percent Viagra administered men had considerably improved sexual intercourse while among the placebo users only 20 percent had improved intercourse.
However, study author Dr. Thomas G. Pickering of Columbia University in New York revealed before Reuters Health that the results derived from the study evidence that Viagra can assist erectile dysfunction afflicted men who are suffering from high blood pressure. Further, even though 40 percent of men on Viagra and 25 percent placebo administered people experienced Viagra side-effects, Pickering pronounced that the side-effects were "nothing serious".
